Artist Statement for Daddy’s Home

My latest works are about numerous things that I have been thinking about since I came back to the U.S. last February, after being out of the country for 10 years in Asia (living mostly in Thailand).

There is a certain trepidation I have in my life about being back in this country that I didn’t expect. And it seems to me, to be showing up in the work. I have been less centered on the space motif and the compositions look more uncomfortable and abstract to me. I feel I am less part of what I am making and that it feels like someone/thing is channeling the work through me. I think that I have always had this thought to an extent but it is stronger now than before. I guess being home has taken away some of the conceptual nature of the work and is now coming from a more emotional place.
